Matt C. Rogers is a seasoned storyteller.

Equally comfortable in the ever-merging worlds of print, pics, video and audio, this award-winning journalist has interviewed hundreds of artists and musicians across multi-media platforms for numerous publications, including the Village Voice, New York Times, Wax Poetics, Mojo, Urb, the Amsterdam News, Popmatters, and, in addition, has been featured in the Da Capo book series, Best Music Writing.

A long-time contributing editor for Wax Poetics, he’s written extensively on soul, funk, Latin, hip-hop and jazz, has contributed liner notes, photos and video work for labels such as Concord, Blue Note and Daptone Records, and has done A&R production work for Fania Records. Moreover, he has produced and co-produced numerous short radio features and extended documentaries for public radio in a number of countries, including PRI, NPR, Pacifica and the Australian Broadcast Corporation.

His video documentary work has been featured most recently in the PBS series, Soundbreaking, as well as the Oscar-winning feature, AMY. Currently he is working on a documentary on the singer Sharon Jones. In addition, he has done commercial and music video work for a number of outlets, including Best Buy, MTV, Humana, Energizer, Brooks Sports and the Van Meter Group.

He holds a Master’s of Arts degree in Writing & Literature from the City College of New York, and a Bachelor of Art’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before diving into the world of journalism, Matt enjoyed myriad stints as a bottle capper, lifeguard, swim instructor, inner tube water polo referee, Disc Jockey, whitewater rafting guide, ESL instructor, copy writer/editor, public school teacher and adjunct professor in Harlem and the South Bronx.

Boston-born, Bay Area-raised, Matt is currently based in Los Angeles, where he lives with his better half and their two children. In his spare time, this southpaw enjoys translating the genius works of Ole Lund Kirkegaard, and hurling strikes.
